Do you care about homelessness in Greater Manchester? Have you got expertise and experience in law, the homelessness sector, business development, property or retail? We are looking for new charity trustees to join our Emmaus South Manchester team. If you have time to spare and want to help establish a new homelessness charity, then we want to hear from you.
Emmaus South Manchester is an independent local homelessness charity, working to establish a new Emmaus community. Our aim is to support formerly homeless people and those suffering deprivation and social exclusion in the local area.
Our current board of trustees is a mixture of three experienced Emmaus trustees from other communities and three local trustees. A seventh trustee is a former Emmaus employee living locally. We intend to have a fully local board of trustees in place within two years and are seeking to recruit a diverse range of people with different life experiences.
Main duties
- Provide professional advice and support
- Attend and contribute at trustee meetings (currently held via video call)
- Read board papers and accompanying documents prior to meetings
- Suggest practical ideas to overcome upcoming challenges
- Work collaboratively with fellow trustees.
Skills and experience needed
- Specific expertise in law, the homelessness sector, business development, property or retail
- Awareness of charity and/or social enterprise governance
- Experience of organisational development
- Knowledge of the communities within south Manchester
- Good people skills and experience within a team
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic and a positive, can do attitude.
Time commitment
The Emmaus South Manchester board of trustees meet once a month, currently via video call. We are looking for new trustees who can commit to volunteering at least 1 day per month.
